I fell in love with Photography as a kid. I gained my appreciation early from watching my uncle. I never really took any pictures, but was fascinated with the camera and its ability to freeze moments in time. In high school I was able to take a photography course and started on my journey.
At the time I was intrigued by black and white photography (…still am). The dark room was my sanctuary. I loved watching the images that I saw through the lens develop on paper before my eyes…it was almost magical. I found I had an ability to see things differently then everyone else in my classes. An uncanny attention to detail helped me see pure beauty in the simplest of things. I believe It is this artistic eye that is my spiritual gift.
As I grew older I fell in the rut of the “American Dream” while I’ve always held on to my love it took a back seat to life. I have no regrets…two daughters that are my pride and joy, a beautiful wife, and two awesome step sons!
I believe art should serve a purpose. Its ok to have art for arts sake, but the true art combines function and form with aesthetics and emotion for a defined purpose. That purpose can be self serving or for a greater cause. My art is in constant search of this purpose.
I am fascinated by light. With it you can change the way something looks and the mood that it reflects. If I had to describe my medium of choice it would not be photography it would be light. Photography is merely a tool like a paint brush. It simply captures the light that is the medium which manipulates the form into an aesthetically pleasing work of art.
My general images are of people, places, and other things that I find interesting or aesthetically appealing. They are images for those who appreciate a more traditional approach to photographic art. I try to capture recognizable lines and forms into a timeless image.
My abstract images try to stretch the imagination and invoke feeling. They are not meant to be an exact reproduction of the object in front of the lens, but more so an altered representation at a moment in time. These are categorized as light, medium, or dark to reflect the overall tone of the image.
While the abstract images serve my inner purpose I have the need to serve a greater purpose. For that I am starting a series called “The Forgotten: people, places, & animals”. These are photographs of social, urban, and abuse issues that society all to often turns away from. Proceeds related to this series will be donated to urban, social, and animal rescue organizations. Contributions will be posted on the website for for folks to track.
I hope that my images will move you to seek your own purposes and help others. We are all on a journey. This blog is about my journey. A journey of my ideas and my love, a love that I now share with you.
Enjoy…
-Tim
