Any One Can Cook

Chef Gusteau gives Remy advice

Chef Gusteau gives Remy advice

If you have ever seen the movie Ratatouille then you’ve heard the motto of the ghostly Chef Gusteau “Any one can cook!” that is the foundation of the movie.

The movie is a story of ironies and  inspiration telling the tale of  a rat that ends up being one of the finest chefs in all of France.

I started working in a restaurant at the age of 15 washing dishes and worked my way up to a head line cook. Now this was no famous French bistro and the food we served was less then gourmet, but I’ve become quite the humble chef over the years. I frequently receive compliments on meals from the Wednesday evening dinner to the Thanksgiving feast; however, along the way I have had those nights that resulted in ordering pizza…no one is perfect ;)

My efforts of pursuing the artistic side of photography has not been much different. I’ve always been somewhat of an underdog; receiving no formal training and essentially being self-taught through the internet, reading books, watching others, and experimentation.

These two experiences have taught me that while I might not be a traditional chef or professional photographer I am an artist at heart. This is the way that God designed me. My beliefs tell me that He will use anyone from any background (typically the least likely candidate) to do the most miraculous things. For this reason and this reason alone you should never give up on your passions and dreams.

I think this is why I love Chef Gusteau  motto “Any one can cook”. It inspires and motivates. So when ever life knocks you on your rear, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and remember Anton Ego’s realization of that little motto

“Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere.”
